The Part played by Scholastic, Co-scholastic and Moral Education in school
Scholastic, Co-scholastic, and moral education play a major part in the school, and this is because the school has a moral ethos that has been embodied in the rewards, rules, styles of teaching, relationships, dress codes, and punishments. It also teaches students what is required of them and what is right, as well as what is wrong. Through its ethos, it socializes its employees into patterns of moral behavior. Additionally, the school has courses and textbooks that always address questions of morals and takes moral positions. The employees are required to show the highest professional behavior and act in a courteous manner or way when interacting with others. The school promotes integrity, fairness, and honesty in all its operations. Most importantly, the employees are required to conduct themselves in a way that would not be harmful to the school’s interests. The offering of the gifts or payment and accepting of bribes by the employees are not allowed and may lead to disciplinary action.
The Importance of Equal Opportunities for all Learners and Parents/Guardians
Equal opportunity for all the students and learners is important because it ensures physical accessibility, accessibility, non-discrimination, adaptability, and economic accessibility in education. The school offers equal opportunities to all its workers and employees for employment without considering race, religion, color, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. It specifically prohibits any unlawful worker harassment based on color, race, gender, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or marital status. The school also does not allow the interference of the ability of the workers to perform their job responsibilities. The equal opportunities for all students and parents also ensure that people with special needs or disabilities develop to their fullest potential in society (Pring, 2019). Further equal opportunities ensure that the school system, programs, and activities are tailored in a manner that enables all learners to learn as well as participate.
The National Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of UAE
The Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of UAE outlines the ethical philosophies that govern the behaviors and decisions at an organization or company. They outline how the workers must behave and handle particular issues such as conflict of interest, safety, and harassment. The public servants of UAE are therefore required to perform their responsibilities or duties objectively, faithfully, with integrity and to continuously work towards achieving the objectives or goals of the organization they work for. UAE has core values that improve the public servants’ performance, and these values are integrity, objectivity, alertness, neutrality, honesty, fairness and equality, transparency, leadership, and excellence (Alkhyeli & Ewijk, 2018). To achieve these values, public servants must behave in a way that serves to enhance and serve the integrity and core values of the country. The public servants must know that all people are equal or the same before the law. In addition, they should know that serving the people and their country is a privilege and an honor that needs to be cherished. The challenges of implementation of the code of ethics are general weakness in the leadership, ignorance, weak enforcement, lack of knowledge, poor public service culture, and weak supervision. The remedial actions to enhance effective practices of the code of Ethics and Professional Conduct include: educating the public servants and employees on the code, leadership by example, making the code to be accessible to all, rewriting as well as simplifying the code to be readable, and thoroughly applying the punishment and reward system.
The Principles and Values that Define an Ethical Code of Conduct for Teachers
The core values that define the Ethical Code of Conduct for teachers are teamwork – emphasizing coordination and cooperation, integrity- performing the right things, transparency- maintaining openness, respect- respecting colleagues, students, parents and community, compassion- caring as well as showing responsibility to others and accountability- taking personal responsibility (Ololube, 2016). And the principles that define the teaching practice in UAE are: first, teachers are expected to maintain a professional relationship or rapport with all learners, both outside and inside the classroom. They are required to behave in a manner that enhances the learners’ welfare and meets the learning needs of the students. This principle is important to the teaching profession because it discourages inappropriate relationships with the learners outside or inside the classroom, and this includes any behaviors that comprise of sexual harassment. Second, the teachers are expected to respect as well as cooperate with the parents in daily duties to advance the learning of the students. They are supposed to involve parents in the decision-making process about the education of the students, and this is important because it includes the parents’ perspectives when making decisions regarding the learning process of the students. Third, the teachers are expected to collaborate with their colleagues to ensure effective learning of the students. They are expected to encourage as well as support their colleagues to maintain and build high professional teaching standards. This is relevant to the teaching profession because it develops a supportive and positive professional environment that enhances the learning of the students. Fourth, the teachers are supposed to refrain from using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco in the workplace. The teachers are required to abide by the laws of the government concerning using alcohol and other drugs in the workplace. This is relevant to the teaching profession because it encourages the students to condone alcohol or drug use. Fifth, the teachers are required to avoid situations that represent a conflict of interest. They are required to perform their duties with impartiality and fairness. And this is important to the teaching profession because it encourages integrity among the teachers when performing their responsibilities (Ibrahim & Al Falasi, 2017).
The challenges of implementation of the code of ethics are general weakness in the leadership of teachers, ignorance of some teachers, weak enforcement, lack of knowledge, difficulty in understanding the code of conduct language, and weak supervision. The corrective actions to enhance effective practices of the code of Ethics and Professional Conduct include: educating the teachers and other employees on the code, leadership by example, making the code to be accessible to all, rewriting as well as simplifying the code to be readable by all teachers and other workers, and thoroughly applying the punishment and reward system.
How Ethical Behavior can be established in the School
Ethical behavior can be developed in the school by encouraging ethical behavior among the employees and the students. The school management and the other stakeholders can create an environment that encourages ethical behaviors among the students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders. Ethical behavior can also be developed through setting and enforcing ethical standards by the school management. The school sets ethical standards and principles that guide the behavior of the parents, students, and other stakeholders. The school strives for building ethical relationships and ethical awareness by ensuring that its curriculum has ethical values such as teamwork, transparency, accountability, respect, and compassion, which are in accordance with their work. The teachers are required to behave in a manner that enhances the learners’ welfare and meet the learning needs of the students (Ibrahim & Al Falasi, 2017). The parents are required to participate in the decision making process about the education of the students. The school management is required to play the role of promoting integrity, fairness, and honesty in all its operations.
Quality Standards Rules and Regulations Existing in the School
Quality education in the school is mainly dependent on trained teachers, relevant curriculum, good facilities and resources, safe learning environment, community, and family support. The school believes in its core value of constantly improving education and hence is committed to providing staff, school administrators, and teachers with continuous professional development opportunities. The quality of education in the school supports personal development, and this includes supporting integration into society and empowering the students. And this is done through various sessions and modules that improve their teaching practice. It clearly outlines the fundamental aspects of quality assurance in its employee handbook, and these aspects are in line with the national framework of the Code of Ethics and Professional conduct. For instance, the school offers equal opportunities to all its workers and employees for employment without considering race, religion, color, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. The workers are expected to exercise professional judgment, show the highest professional behavioral standards, and act courteously when interacting with other colleagues. The teachers are required to behave in a manner that enhances the learners’ welfare and meet the learning needs of the students. Teachers are expected to work together with their colleagues to meet the learning needs of the students. Further, the school encourages a safe work environment that is free from discrimination or harassment. The employees of the school are expected to take all necessary actions that ensure a safe work environment. The employee handbook outlines how the workers must behave and handle particular issues such as conflict of interest, safety, and harassment. And most importantly, employees are required to perform their responsibilities or duties objectively, faithfully, and with integrity.
The challenges of implementation of Quality Standards Rules and Regulations in the school are general weakness in the leadership of teachers, ignorance of some teachers, weak enforcement by the school administrators, lack of knowledge, difficulty in understanding the Quality Standards Rules and Regulations, and weak supervision. The corrective actions to enhance Quality Standards Rules and Regulations include: educating the teachers and other employees on the Quality Standards Rules and Regulations, leadership by example, making the Quality Standards Rules and Regulations accessible to all, rewriting as well as simplifying the quality standards to be readable by all teachers and other workers, and thoroughly applying the punishment and reward system (Ololube, 2016). Furthermore, development awareness among the employees would help in resolving the gaps identified. The continuous training, reorientation programs, and workshops should be taken seriously in the application of the quality standard rules and regulations. In addition, the violation of the quality standards should attract suitable punishment.
