Analyze the effectiveness of instruction as demonstrated in the post-assessment data.

The post-assessment data showed that most of the learners had grasped the lesson content. However, it also indicated that the content was not synthesized as required. The post-assessment data revealed that the learners were able to use the vocabulary taught in class. Most of the learners were able to draw separate animal and plant structures and label them appropriately. This implies that the instruction favored content acquisition. However, about 50 percent of the learners did not appear to link the content appropriately to real-life experiences. Some responses indicated that the concepts of the lessons were still abstract for many learners. The instruction was, therefore, not suitable to enable the learners to relate the content with real-life objects and experiences. Overall, the instruction was effective in teaching new concepts but failed substantially in creating links with the learners existing knowledge about plants and animals.

Explain how you would use the post-assessment data to evaluate and modify instruction. How can the post-assessment data help you design future lessons?

The post-assessment data was essential for me to evaluate and modify my instruction. Critically, the post-assessment data should not only be used to measure the abilities gained by the learners but also the effectiveness of the teacher in delivering content. The analysis of the post-assessment data would help me evaluate and modify instruction by enabling me to identify both my weaknesses in teaching certain lessons and my strengths. I would strive to build on my strengths and mitigate my weaknesses. While designing my future lessons, I can be more conscious of my strengths and weaknesses. As a result, I will plan appropriately to ensure that I do not repeat certain practices that previously proved to be unhelpful. For instance, I can try to make my future lessons more engaging to establish whether the learners find the content meaningful and realistic. Being more aware of the fact that the content I deliver should be realistic can enable me to devise ways, making it realistic both when planning and when the lesson is in progress.

Lesson implementation and assessments are key aspects of teaching which determine the achievement of the lesson objectives. Lesson implementation should take into account the diverse needs of the learners and address them accordingly. Lesson assessment, on the other hand, provides a room for the improvement and modification of instruction. In science, lesson implementation and assessment should be well-calculated to ensure that learners do not develop a negative attitude towards science subjects. I have learned that science lessons ought to be as practical as possible not only to make them realistic and meaningful but also to make them interesting to the learners. In my future professional practice, I will ensure that all my lessons are highly experimental to boost learners’ understanding and maintain their interest in science subjects. I will always ensure that the lessons take place in the most appropriate environment to make them meaningful. I have also learned that assessment is very vital in science lessons as it measures not only the learners’ abilities but also the instructional methods employed. Thus, in my future professional practice, I will ensure that I give assignments after all lessons to determine the learners’ levels of understanding and also to develop insights on how to better my instruction. The implementation and assessment components of teaching, to a great extent, determine both learner understanding and teacher development.
