Modify US Constitution Amendments
We have decided to modify the amendments to the United States Constitution.
Write 200 words convincing me that one of the original 10 need to go. Why and what consequences would we see.
The Third Amendment: The Third Amendment states that âNo Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.â The Amendment is in place to restrain the government from housing soldiers in private residences both during the times of peace and those of war without the consent of the owner unless under the prescription by law. The contents of the Third Amendment imply that it has lost its relevance in the contemporary United States. The Amendment sprouted from the colonial era Quartering Acts under which the Americans were required by the British government to give residence to the British soldiers and offer them food. The quartering was to be done in all residences, including private homes, and no consent was required from the homeowner for the enactment of quartering. Currently, the practice of quartering is no longer being carried out by any government. There are no contemporary cases in court listed under this Amendment. Thus, its utility has faded away with the change of political structures. The elimination of the Third Amendment will have no consequences in the American legal framework as it has almost been forgotten due to lack of cases citing it.Then write another 200 words convincing me that one of the 11-27 amendments need to go (Donât use 18 since its gone).
The Thirteenth Amendment: The Thirteenth Amendment states that âNeither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.â This Amendment was put in place to abolish slavery in the United States. However, it implies that slavery is permissible as a punishment for having committed a criminal offense. The Amendment, to some degree, expands and justifies the existence of involuntary servitude in the United States. The existence of the Thirteenth Amendment justifies the involvement of the incarcerated individuals in forced work. Forced prison labor is often used for control whereby minor crimes are criminalized for maintenance of cheap labor. The arrangement of forced servitude as a form of criminal punishment is favored by large corporations in need of cheap labor. The economic benefits of justified forced servitude act as incentives for incarceration. I believe that forced servitude in prisons also needs to end to pave the way for the implementation of more genuine and justifiable correctional activities. If the Thirteenth Amendment is repealed, it will provide an opportunity for the creation of another Amendment that will actually abolish slavery without the institution of any exceptions.
Last part write 100-200 words telling me an amendment that you wish we had.
Politics in the United States are largely defined by power systems, which are mostly strengthened by being in possession of money. The country has developed into an oligarchy. The leaders are beholden by large corporations, donors, and unions that fund their campaigns. As a result, the government has ceased to be âa government of the people, by the people, for the people. Leaders are in office to serve the interests of the rich who help them to buy influence using finances from the citizens. We need to have an amendment that will regulate financial spending, especially during the campaign periods. Politicians need to be barred from spending money to influence citizens to vote for them.
