ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES
The assignment should be organized to include:
- No Introduction
- Analysis divided into Sections (see below)
- No Conclusion
- Add a Footnote page
Footnotes must be listed at the end on a separate page (does NOT count toward the page requirement) (any generally accepted format of footnoting is fine). A resource list at the end of the paper is NOT needed.
– Discuss the importance and/or perils of registering multiple ccTLDs and gTLDs.
– Pick one (1) ccTLD and one (1) gTLD that you recommend registering for the company name and/or its brand names with the extension. Explain your reasoning from a defensive and/or brand promotion point of view.
– Discuss the merits and feasibility of the company referenced in Section B.2. creating its own gTLD registry. Reference the cost of that gTLD and whether it was a factor in your decision.
I am not just looking for a discussion of how to protect your business name on the web; rather, I’m looking for you to discuss the businessperson’s perspective of the importance or lack of importance of domain name registrations. (3 pages)
SECTION C. – Draft a Work for Hire Agreement
HADBIA is Hiring a Freelancer to Design and Create a Company Logo (you may use any free online form and tailor it to the below activity)
Business Terms:
Our company, HADBIA wants to hire a graphic arts college student, Jane, to design and create its logo. Jane will sketch up to five (5) designs on spec. If HADBIA approves one design, then it will pay Jane $200 to create a logo, with HADBIA given three (3) rounds of changes. Thereafter, HADBIA will pay Jane $100 for each additional significant logo design change.The agreement should be written to benefit HADBIA’s rights. Remember from class that we discussed the trademark and copyright implications of hiring a freelancer without a written contract. Draft a Work for Hire Agreement which includes the above business terms of the agreement, all boilerplate clauses (Including statement of original work and Indemnification in the event of a dispute), HADBIA’s ownership of IP, and language where the Independent Contractor agrees to transfer all IP to HADBIA, in the event the relationship is not deemed to be a work for hire by a judge.
