Inquiry Based Approaches Curriculum

Learning and Development (Three – Five Year Olds)Instructions:

  • Design a one-week curriculum that incorporates inquiry- based approaches to human culture.
  • Base your curriculum on themes from human culture such as history, philosophy, geography or religion. (one of these themes or 2 themes together)
  • Use theoretical concepts from different perspectives and critically reflect on the relationship between theories and pedagogy. ( different theorists such as Piaget, Vygotsky…)

Criteria:

  • A comprehensive design of one-week curriculum that incorporates inquiry-based approaches to human culture.
  • Clear basis of curriculum on themes from human culture such as history, philosophy, geography or religion.
  • Critical reflection of the relationship between theories and pedagogy.
  • Academic English expression and referencing – APA style
  • Minimum 6 references.

Structure (1000-1500 words):

Introduction (about 200-300 words)

  • theme(s) of the week
  • context of the class (age group like, 3-5yrs, 3-4yrs and the majority of the classroom are Australian born children, children from non-English speaking background or aboriginal….etc)
  • when is the themes is delivered (month) , (as an example, if it is religion base theme as Christmas, it will be on the month of November/December) Rationale of curriculum (about 500-700 words)
  • Explanation of inquiry-based approaches implemented in the curriculum design (including incorporation of play-based learning, if relevant)
  • Clear basis of curriculum on themes from human culture such as history, philosophy, geography or religion.
  • Critical reflection of the relationship between theories and pedagogy.

Learning/activity (about 300-500 words)

  • A comprehensive design of one-week curriculum (learning plan for 5 days) (1 page and 2 examples attached)
  • Learning objectives, learning activities, assessment plan.

This is a curriculum design for CHILDREN AGED 3-5 YEARS OLD, make sure you plan the activities accordingly, considering stages of learning and development of this age group.- In the introduction, state clearly the THEME(S) of the curriculum design, the CLASS (context), and the TIME (when the curriculum will be delivered)

– In the rationale of curriculum, EXPLAIN clearly the learning approach implemented in the curriculum, the basis of curriculum from HUMAN CULTURE, and critical reflection or CONNECTION of specific theoretical concept(s) with the pedagogical practice in your curriculum design.

– In the 5-days learning/activity plan, STATE clearly about the ACTIVITIES and the OBJECTIVES, while the assessment plan can be general for the whole one-week curriculum, but you can also make it daily or based on activity. Please make the activity SPECIFIC, for example if you use games, what games in the activity not just general such as “play a physical game’, but briefly explain what the game is.
