Hiking Adventure Descriptive Essay
Lack of proper preparation for a particular event or activity may sometimes lead to painful and memorable experiences. Surprisingly, the frightening experiences may positively help in developing an important lifetime trait, a true story from Half Dome Mountain Yosemite hiking experience. It had been long-time dream that one day I would hike Half Dome Mountain. I had learned from my friends and travel websites about the thrilling moments one would encounter while climbing the mountain. The description of the mountain and more so the granite top always lingered in my mind as I eagerly waited for the great day. The grey rocks, scattered grasses, tall trees and wet fog as narrated by my friends and relatives who had hiked the mountain before, preoccupied my mind before the great day. I shared my hiking plans with my sister who agreed to accompany me. I researched on hiking travel guides and gathered all the necessary things I thought would be needed. In my checklist, I had a backpack, a first-aid kit, water, and food. The long awaited day was Saturday. A day before, I remember vividly going to my sister’s room where I found her listening to hip hop music as the blue lights sparked from corner to corner. I reminded her that we were to go for the hiking the following day. She agreed by nodding and smiling as her soft and well-curled lips opened to reveal a natural gap between medium-sized white teeth. I had always admired my sister’s beauty and kindness. She had always been there to help me since I was young. As I closed the door behind, I felt like flying as I imagined the big day ahead.
I had informed my sister that we would leave before dawn since mountain climbing would start at 7: 00 a.m. I set the alarm to ring at 3.30 a.m., but even before my digital alarm clock could beep, I was already awake. The long awaited day had come, and I could not sleep any longer. I wanted to start the day at high gear and make my sister happy too. I let my sister sleep as I prepared nutritious and palatable breakfast. My sister always liked fruit pizza, and I was sure she would be blissful. And indeed she was because as she swallowed the delicious bites, she never stopped to praise me. Immediately we finished our breakfast, we put our backpacks in the boot, entered the car and within minutes were driving swiftly in the silent and lonely road towards Yosemite National Park.
