The definition of BPM starts by defining business process. This entails the group of activities that utilize one or several types of inputs to create outputs that are of value to the customers (Anand et al., 2012, p. 2). It can also be defined as the organization of activities in a given time on a particular place, from the start to an end, with well-defined inputs and outputs. The complete business process involves defined steps that are followed to achieve the target goals (Anand et al., 2012, p. 2). Upon introducing the aspect of management, the business process management will be defined as the procedure that helps to plan, organize and execute the necessary steps and operations to produce valuable inputs. Business Process Management attributes consists of workflow management, enterprise resource planning, case handling, customer relationship management and enterprise application integration.Q2: What were the driver(s) and trigger(s) for initiating BPM in this organization? Drivers and Triggers behind BPM in General Motors
General Motors started business process management to increase administrative and coordination efficiency. This move was triggered by the company fault cars caused deaths and injuries to thousands of customers. It has been argued that if General Motors had had business process management, it would have helped to overcome the tragedy. The business process management in the company was driven and triggered by the need to overcome information systems redundancies. The company implemented the information processes to link its Ford center with the global operations. The business process implementation comprised of reengineering network operating systems, introducing new desktop systems and developing application tools to manage technology platforms and vendors. General Motors’ business process management was also triggered by the need to have common business communication approach all over the world.
