Jack, Tom and Ed are all former employees of Accenture, a global management consulting and professional services firm that provides strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations services. They have just started their own digital consulting company called Digisol. Digisol helps small medium-sized organisations design and implement digital technology in the space of marketing, operation and customer service. For the first six months, Jack Tom and Ed have been the only consultants in the company. They have now picked up enough business that they want to add five new consultants to have three different consulting teams. Because Digisol has such a unique niche in the consulting market and is a recent start up, Jack Tom and Ed have come up with five strategic business objectives.

Based on the strategic business objectives, they feel that it is necessary that they hire consultants with

a) Experience in dealing with various digital platforms
b) Connections to a variety of digital technology companies
c) Sales experience since the new consultant will be responsible for finding and obtaining new clients.

Based upon their past experience at Accenture, Jack, Tom, and Ed know that it will be very difficult not only to attract consultants with this kind of experience but also to retain them. In order to combat these concerns, Jack, Tom and Ed feel that, if they can design and implement a proper reward strategy, they will be able to recruit and retain consultants with the necessary experience.

Based on this information and your knowledge of reward management, how would you recommend that Digisol structure a reward strategy for these new consultants? Please explain why you gave the recommendation that you did. Where relevant, please also explain the kind of rewards/pay you would recommend Jack, Tom and Ed to avoid.

Description of the task

Work in small groups, you will use reward and motivational theories and principles to develop appropriate reward strategies in response to a case study provided to you.

This is an opportunity for you to experience the ‘real world’ context of HRM practice where you will be expected to participate in client or team meetings and presentations via electronic means. This means you’ll have to consider the best way to structure your presentation so that your audience is interested and can follow your main points easily. Target Audience

Your presentation needs to be developed as if your team were delivering to the senior manager of the organisation (your client).  Present to the senior manager as if you were doing so as part of a Skype call during a management meeting.

The Presentation should provide an overview of your analyses of the provided case, the proposed reward strategy and your rationales.

CUC107 Applying Cultural Capabilities Report

Task Overview

Introduction: It has been argued that cultural capabilities are fundamental to operating effectively in the workplace, community and the university. Cultural self-awareness, cultural intelligence and cultural capability are all required for creating safe work and social spaces. So, to complete this task you will be drawing together all of the learning from the unit to show understanding of strategies to create safe spaces.Task: Write a formal report to observe and analyse whether characters in a scenario are showing effective cultural capabilities and maintaining a culturally safe space. Also, recommend how effective cultural capabilities of the characters could be improved.

Task details

The report should:

  • Summarise and describe observations of the interactions related to aspects of cultural capabilities in the scenario.
  • Analyse (with formal references) the safe and unsafe aspects of the scenario, including the physical location and interactions between people.
  • Provide recommendations for creating or sustaining this scenario as a culturally safe space.
  • Be written in a formal tone – avoid personal language, contractions and slang.

2. Format the Report

Prepare the layout before writing.Font size and type: Use font size 12. You may use font type calibri, arial or times new roman. Margins: Use Default margin, 2.54cm.

Line Spacing:  1.5 line spacing. You will need to include sections and subsections which should have numbered and titled headings. Word counts for each section below are only a guide but do indicate relative importance of the sections. This is reflected in the marking for each section.

  • Title of Report: This should be on a separate page. Include the title, your name and student number, and the date. The title should include the name of the assignment and describe what the report will do. You can be creative to make an interesting title page.

1.2 Aim Tell the reader what the report aims to do – i.e. It will provide a summary, description and analysis of an example of a safe or unsafe space, and will recommend improvements to improve the safety of the space where appropriate.1.3 Scope Explain what the report will focus on, including what video, what particular scenes you will be discussing, and if the example depicts a safe or unsafe space.

  1. Summary and Observations (Approx. 350- 400 words): This section will include two sub-sections.

2.1 Summary of the scenario: needs to include:

  • a brief plot line of the events you are analysing
  • the setting (social, academic or workplace) with a general overview of the scene
  • any relevant background information to understand the scene
  • identification of the key characters ( you can use ‘persons A, B and C” ).

2.2 Observations: Identify the behaviours that are evidence of the cultural safety issues and cultural capability. These observations should confirm your statement in the introduction about whether the space is safe or unsafe.  Some of the things to look for and describe are: physical factors (size and layout of space, position of people in the space), communication factors (body language, voice, words), signs of inclusion or exclusion, and displays of or lack of cultural intelligence. It is a good idea to include a Table to set out your observations. Word count is included in the ‘summary and observations” quota, so don’t ‘spend’ all your words here.If you use a table, remember that it will need to be introduced, and a number and title provided, as per below. (Note replace highlighted instructions with your own words):

  1. Analysis: (700-800 words):

In this section you should demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts covered in the unit.  Using relevant literature, together with your observations in section 2 of elements within the scenario, analyse whether chosen scenes are a safe or an unsafe space and explain why. Support your claims about whether each scene is a safe or unsafe space with readings and definitions of the concepts that comprise cultural safety including cultural intelligence and cultural capabilities.

Hint: As noted earlier, to improve clarity, your analysis may include numbered sub-headings to highlight and structure key issues or reasons that you have identified in your scenario as important to whether the space represented there is safe or not safe (e.g. 3.1 Empathy, 3.2 Intercultural Communication, 3.3 Awareness of Body Language, 3.4 Culture Shock, Etc.).

  1. Recommendations (150 – 200 words): Based on your analysis section, make recommendations for how situations in the situation may be changed using cultural capabilities to make this a safer space. The recommendations that you make should tie in very closely to your discussion in the analysis section. If the scenario is already safe, identify what aspects of the scenario have been important in making it safe. References are needed here.
  2. Summary and Conclusion (approx. 100 words): Summarise the main ideas. What did your chosen situation show about safe spaces, and what actions needed to be taken to make it a safe space, if anything?  No new material or references should be included in the summary and conclusion.

You are the District nurse who is visiting Violet

You are the District nurse who is visiting Violet, who has type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and a lower left leg ulcer. She is ambulant over short distances with a walking frame. Violet has been approved for residential aged care and has been waiting for a nursing home bed. During the last 3 months you have been visiting to attend to Violet’s BSL’s and daily dressings, until a suitable placement becomes available.Violet currently lives with her daughter Gemma, Matthew (Gemma’s husband), and their two young children, Scott aged 5 and Lucy aged 7, who both attend the local primary school. The family lives in a two-bedroom town house. Gemma works night shift as an enrolled nurse, and earlier in the year Matthew was made redundant from his job and is currently unemployed.

The house is becoming quite stressful. The children have given up their bedroom for their grandmother and are sleeping in the lounge room. Violet requires a lot of care and is demanding of her daughter’s time. Violet argues frequently with Matthew about him not working and his drinking of alcohol. You are very fond of the family and feel for the pressures that they are under. One day after you shower and attended Violets wound care you pass Matthew sitting on the front step of the house. He is drinking alcohol and it is 10am. You ask him how he is coping with having Violet staying with the family. He says he’s not doing so well and “lately I’ve had trouble controlling my temper with the kids”.

Guideline for completing Assessment Task 4

Please make sure you are familiar with the assessment criteria in the unit outline and the rubric. As this is a report not an essay, it is appropriate to use headings if you wish. 3. Undertake a literature search to find relevant literature that contribute to answering your research question. Detail the search engines and search terms used. Briefly discuss the outcome of this search and the process used to determine which articles you include in the subsequent discussion. (150 – 200 words)

4. Discuss relevant material from the literature you found that contribute to answering your proposed research question. (250 – 300 words)

5. Briefly explain what type of questions qualitative research is used to answer. Develop a qualitative research question related to the clinical issue you have nominated. The wording of the question should demonstrate your understanding of qualitative research. (150 words)
